Shop & process

Made in Auburn

Every countertop we sell is templated, cut, finished and installed by our own crew, from our shop in Auburn.

What happens in the shop?

From slab to finished top

Slabs come in from our local granite and quartz suppliers.

Once you have picked a slab and we have templated your cabinets, we lay out every piece on a photo of that slab. You see where seams and veins fall and approve the layout before we cut.

Pieces are cut on our CNC, then edged and polished. Sink and cooktop openings are cut from the manufacturer specs.

Finished tops are checked against the template, loaded and installed by our crew.

Stone glossaryTemplate

A full-size record of your cabinets and walls, taken on site after the cabinets are installed and level.

We cut to the template, not to drawings, so the tops fit the room as it was built.

The steps in detail

How a job runs

Every job goes through the same four steps, whatever the size. Steps 3 and 4, getting ready for template and install day, are on the Getting ready page.

Step 1: Get a price.

  • There are 3 ways to get a free, no-obligation quote. Once we have measurements, the price is ready in 24–48 hours.
  • Send a drawing: cabinet drawings, a house plan, or a simple bird’s-eye sketch with measurements. Note what you know: backsplash, sink, edge profile, and whether tear-out is needed. A team member calls to go over it.
  • Come to the office: bring your drawings or plans to the showroom in Auburn and go over the project with us.
  • In-home estimate: we come out, measure and go over options.

Step 2: Finalize details.

  • Choose the material.
  • Choose the edge.
  • Decide on seams, if any.
  • Approve the final quote.
  • Pay a 50% deposit.
  • Book a template date.

Once your cabinets are installed and the old tops are cleared off, we come out and record every wall, corner and cabinet edge.

In our shop

Layout, cutting and finishing.

We place each piece on a photo of your slab so you can see where veins and seams fall. Nothing is cut until you approve it.

Pieces are cut on our CNC.

Edges are profiled and polished in the shop to the finish of the top: polished, honed or leathered.

Our team inspects every piece before it is delivered.

On site

Install and after.

We call to confirm the install date and time.

Most installs take 3–4 hours and are done in one day. Large or multi-area jobs can take longer.

Book plumbing, electrical and tile for after the countertop install. Our crew does not do electrical or plumbing work.

Questions about care or a repair go to the same shop.

Machines and materials

We cut on our own CNC: quartzite, marble, granite, quartz and porcelain. Details on each material are on the Choosing a material page.
